Schwan’s Cup is set to crown the Champions

This is the second day of the boys’ tournament. The boys’ championship games will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, December 31, 2014.

Gold Division game summaries

 

Hill Murray 5, Eastview 1.

Jacob Olson scored twice for Hill-Murray to lead the Pioneers to a 5-1 consolation bracket victory over Eastview. Zach Mills and Marko Reifenberg each tallied a goal and two assists for the winners.

 

Hill-Murray sprinted to a 3-0 lead early in the second period before Eastview pulled to 3-1 on a Jake Ford goal late in the second period. The Pioneers then padded their lead with two third period goals.

 

Edina 7, Duluth East 1.

The goals came early and often for Edina in a 7-1 victory over Duluth East. Matt Masterman tallied a hat trick for the Hornets. Garett Wait got a goal and an assist and Dylan Malmquist had two assists for the winners.

 

Edina jumped to a 3-1 lead after one period and then stretched their lead with two unanswered goals in each of the last two periods.

 

Semifinal #1: Burnsville 5, Eden Prarie 4. (overtime)

Trailing by two goals in the third period, Burnsville outscored Eden Prairie 3-1 in the final 11 minutes of the game to send the game to overtime when Andy Schoen scored the winning goal with just 41 seconds remaining.

 

It was a back-and-forth third period with Burnsville scoring on power play goals by Carter Dupre and Jake Thomas to draw even at three goals apiece at 11:20 of the third period. Eden Prairie responded with a go-ahead goal by Hunter Johannes at 14:11. After pulling their goaltender, Burnsville’s Jack Ahcan tied the score with just 30 seconds remaining in regulation to set it up for Schoen’s overtime game winner.

 

Semifinal #2: St. Thomas Academy 9, Minnetonka 3.

After a first period in which the score was deadlocked 2-2, St. Thomas Academy outscored Minnetonka 7-1 the rest of the game to cruise to a 9-3 victory.

 

Christiano Versich scored a hat trick, and Jake Hardy and Danny Weihrauch scored two goals apiece for the winners.
