1941: Paul Thompson became the first coach in Black Hawks history to begin a fourth year behind the bench, when Chicago won their season opener 1-0 over the New York Americans. Sam LoPresti picked up his second career shutout.
1971: Bob Nevin scored his third career hat trick (and his first with Minnesota) in the North Stars’ 5-1 win against the St. Louis Blues, at the Met Center.
1979: Steve Payne, Glen Sharpley and Mike Polich each scored twice to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 7-7 tie against the Canucks, at Vancouver.
1979: New York’s Dave Langevin scored his first NHL goal — shorthanded — to lead the Islanders to a 4-1 win over the Kings, at Long Island.
1986: Minnesota’s Keith Acton had three assists in the North Stars 4-1 win over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.
1991: Minnesota’s Brian Bellows scored his 6th career hat trick in the North Stars’ 4-3 loss, at Toronto.
1999: Rookie Ben Clymer picked up two assists, for his first NHL points as the Lightning overcame a 3-0 deficit to beat the Penguins 7-4 at Pittsburgh.
2005: Minnesota Wild won 4-3 in a shootout against the Mighty Ducks at Anaheim, despite being outshot 42-21.
2006: Marcel Dionne, Steve Yzerman, Reed Larson, and coaches Red Berenson and Glen Sonmor were honored as recipients of the Lester Patrick Award, for service to hockey in the United States.
2008: Boston rookie Blake Wheeler scored once in each period for his first career hat trick to lead the Bruins to a 5-2 win over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.
2008: Minnesota goalie Niklas Backstrom made 35 saves and improved his career record against the Avalanche to 8-1-1, with a 3-1 win at Colorado.
2010: Minnesota defenseman Brent Burns scored two power play goals to lead the Wild to a 3-2 win at Columbus.
