This Day in MN Hockey History: Nov. 12

1936:  Chicago’s Mike Karakas and American’s Roy Worters recorded shutouts in the Black Hawks’ 0-0 tie at New York.  It was the 10th career shutout for Karakas and the 66th for Worters.

1954:  Former NHL defenseman Jim Boo born in Rolla, Missouri.  Boo played in the NHL 1977-78 with the Minnesota North Stars.

1969:  J.P. Parise scored twice and added an assist to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 4-2 win against Philadelphia, at the Met Center.

1983:  Gordie Roberts picked up three assists as the Minnesota North Stars won 5-2 over the visiting St. Louis Blues.

1985:  Washington’s Alan Haworth extended his team-record goal scoring streak to 9 straight games and Dave Christian scored two shorthanded goals in the 3rd period in a 5-2 win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers.

1987:  Shaun Sabol leaves the University of Wisconsin to sign with the Philadelphia Flyers.  he becomes the 5th former Vulcan to sign with the Flyers following: Jim Cunningham (’76), Tom Gorence (’76), Craig hanmer (’74), and Paul Holmgren (’74).

1988:  Patrik Sundstrom and Jim Korn each scored twice and added an assist to lead the Devils to a 6-3 win at Washington.

1991:  Minnesota goaltender Jon Casey recorded his 9th career shutout, and Brian Propp scored two goals and added two assists in the North Stars’ 7-0 win against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.

1998:  Philadelphia Flyers acquired Keith Jones from the Colorado Avalanche, in exchange for Shjon Podein.

1998:  Florida rookie Mark Parrish scored two second-period goals and Kirk McLean made 39 saves in the Panthers’ 2-1 win at Philadelphia.

2000:  Minnesota’s Lubomir Serkeras became the first defenseman in Wild history to score two goals in a game and added an assist to set a team record for defensemen with three points, in a 5-4 overtime loss to the visiting Edmonton Oilers.

2002:  Trailing 2-0 midway thru the third period, Jamie Langenbrunner and Scott Gomez scored 29 seconds apart, then Langenbrunner scored again at 3:04 of overtime to give the Devils a 3-2 win over the visiting Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
