This Day in MN Hockey History: Dec. 10

1967:  Wayne Connelly and Bill Masterton scored two goals in a team-record span of :26 and Ray Cullen added a goal and two assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 7-4 win over the Penguins at Pittsburgh.

1969:  Danny Grant scored a goal and added three assists and Barry Gibbs had three assists as the Minnesota North Stars set a team record for most goals in a game, in an 8-5 win over Chicago at the Met Center.

1969:  Minnesota North Stars set a franchise record for fastest three goals when Bill Goldsworthy (twice in a team record :11) and Claude Larose combined to score in a span of 1:17 in an 8-5 win over Chicago at the Met Center.

1979:  Minnesota North Stars traded Per-Olov Brasar to Vancouver in exchange for Canucks’ 2nd round pick, Mike Sands, in 1981 Entry Draft.

1980:  Jordy Douglas and Warren Miller each had two goals and an assist as the Hartford Whalers won 8-5 against the Jets, at Winnipeg.

1986:  The St. Paul Vulcans become the first American hockey team, amateur or professional, to play in Hungary.  Playing in a 10,000 seat outdoor arena in Budapest, the Vulcans lose to the Hungarian National team.

1997:  Neal Broten, Max McNab, Peter Karmanos and John Mayasich were named 1998 recipients of the Lester Patrick Award, for outstanding service to hockey in the United States.

2002:  Minnesota Wild scored three times on five second-period shots for a 5-3 victory over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning.

2007:  Matt Niskanen set a Dallas Stars franchise record for rookie defensemen with three points (a goal and two assists) in a 5-4 overtime win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers.

2009:  Niklas Backstrom recorded his first shutout of the season (the 18th of his career) and Antti Miettinen scored the only goal of the game as the Minnesota Wild beat the Avalanche 1-0 in Colorado.
