This Day in MN Hockey History: Dec. 25

1935: Chicago’s Mike Karakas recorded the 5th shutout of his rookie season in the Black Hawks’ 2-0 win over the Red Wings at Detroit.

1939:  Boston’s Woody Dumart scored a hat trick, and Frankie Brimsek won his 10th straight game against the Black Hawks calendar year 1939, a 6-3 win against visiting Chicago.  Boston outshot the Black Hawks 17-0, in the first period.

1968:  Former NHL center Jim Dowd born in Brick, NJ.  Dowd played in the NHL 1991-92 through 2007-08 with New Jersey, Vancouver, New York Islanders, Calgary, Edmonton, Minnesota Wild, Montreal, Chicago, Colorado and Philadelphia.

1969:  Bill Goldsworthy and J.P. Parise each scored a goal and added two assists in the Minnesota North Stars’ 4-4 tie against Chicago at the Met Center.

1969:  Chicago’s Stan Mikita scored twice to become the second player in franchise history to score 300 goals as a member of the Black Hawks.  The milestone came in a 4-4 tie against the North Stars at Minnesota.

1970:  Toronto’s Norm Ullman scored twice to become the 7th player in the NHL to record 400 career goals as the Maple Leafs lost to the North Stars, 6-3 in Minnesota.

2005:  The IIHF U20 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships were held from December 25 – January 4th jointly at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, ND and the “Mini” Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls, MN. Canada won the Gold Medal in the Tournament.
