This Day in MN Hockey History: Jan. 12

1943:  Bruins’ 16-year-old rookie Bep Guidolin scored twice and had an assist, and Frank Brimsek got his 26th career shutout in a 3-0 win over Chicago, at Boston, in the second of 4 games to benefit the American Red Cross war fund.  $10,624 was raised.

1955:  Former NHL right winger Alex Pirus born in Toronto, Ont. Pirus played in the NHL 1976-77 through 1979-80 with the Minnesota North Stars and Detroit.

1958:  Former NHL left winger Curt Fraser born in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Fraser played in the NHL 1978-79 through 1989-90 with Vancouver, Chicago and the Minnesota North Stars.  He later coached in the league with Atlanta, the NY Islanders and St. Louis.

1967:  Former NHL player Ulf Dahlen born in Ostersund, Sweden. Dahlen played in the NHL 1987-88 through 2002-03 with the New York Rangers, the Minnesota North Stars, Dallas, San Jose, Chicago and Washington, and later became an assistant coach with the Stars.

1969:  Former NHL defenseman Jayson More born in Souris, Man.  More played in the NHL 1988-89 through 1998-99 with the New York Rangers, the Minnesota North Stars, San Jose, Phoenix, Chicago and Nashville.

1974:  Buster Harvey scored twice and added an assist as the Minnesota North Stars lost 4-3 to the NY Islanders at the Met Center.

1983:  Minnesota’s Al MacAdam scored twice for the 200th goal of his NHL career, in a 7-0 North Stars’ win over the Penguins, at Pittsburgh.  Markus Mattsson made 40 saves for his 4th career shutout (and his only one with Minnesota).

1984:  Minnesota North Stars traded Jordy Douglas to the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Tim Trimper.

1984:  Brian Bellow had two goals and an assist when the Minnesota North Stars won 5-4 in overtime over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.

1985:  Brian Bellows scored two goals and added an assist in the North Stars’ 5-4 win over the Hartford Whalers, in Minnesota.

1991:  Toronto Maple Leafs traded Tom Kurvers to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Brian Bradley.

2001:  J.J. Daigneault became the 2nd player in NHL history to play for 10 different NHL teams, when he appeared in his first game with the expansion Minnesota Wild, in a 5-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.  Daigneault tied the mark set by Michel Petit.

2004:  Sergei Zholtok scored on a slap shot with 13 seconds remaining in regulation to lead the Wild to a 3-3 tie with the visiting Nashville Predators.

2014: Danny Heatley had a goal and an assist, and rookie goaltender Darcy Kuemper made 23 saves for his first career shutout as the Minnesota Wild beat the Nashville Predators 4-0 on the road.
