1942: Toronto goalie Turk Broda and Bruins’ Frankie Brimsek dueled to a 0-0 scoreless tie, in a game played at Boston. It was the 32nd career shutout for Broda and the 24th for Brimsek.
1963: Former NHL defenseman Tom Hirsch born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Hirsch played in the NHL 1983-84 through 1987-88 with the Minnesota North Stars.
1972: Lou Nanne scored his first NHL hat trick and added an assist, to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 6-5 win against the Canadiens, at Montreal.
1975: Buffalo traded left wing Norm Gratton and a 3rd-round choice in 1976 amateur draft to the Minnesota North Stars for center Fred Stanfield.
1979: Per-Olov Brasar scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 3-1 win over the Flyers at the Met Center.
1982: Minnesota’s Craig Hartsburg set a North Stars’ record for most points in a game by a defenseman, with two goals and three assists in an an 8-6 win over Detroit, at the Met Center.
1984: Neal Broten had a goal and four assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 10-8 win over the Blues, at St. Louis.
1984: Washington’s Dave Christian scored his 100th career NHL goal as the Capitals began a team-record 10 game winning streak, with a 6-1 win over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.
1988: Brian MacLellan scored the game winning goal with just one second remaining in regulation to give the Minnesota North Stars a 2-1 win over the Islanders.
1990: Dave Christian had a goal and an assist in the third period as the Bruins won 2-1 over the Flyers, in Boston.
1993: Confused Minnesota North Stars fans received a ‘letter’ in their mailboxes from Pat Forciea on this date asking season ticket holders ‘where they wanted to see the North Stars play the next season’, in which became the teams final year in Minnesota before relocating to Dallas and Reunion Arena.
1996: Senators extended their NHL record for consecutive home games without a win to 17 straight (0-15-2) in a 2-2 tie against the Maple Leafs, in Ottawa. Rookie Daniel Alfredsson had a goal and an assist, and Damian Rhodes made 42 saves for Ottawa.
2001: Minnesota rookie Marian Gaborik scored twice in the third period and Manny Fernandez made 35 saves as the Wild won 4-1 against the Kings in Los Angeles.
2009: Goalie Scott Clemmensen won his 20th game of the year and Jamie Langenbrunner scored twice as the Devils beat the Senators 4-1 in Ottawa.
2009: Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored twice and added an assist as the Wild scored six even-strength goals in a 6-1 win over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.
2010: Antti Miettinen scored twice in the first period to lead the Wild to a 5-2 win over the visiting Detroit Red Wings, and extend their home unbeaten streak to 6-0-1.
2014: South St. Paul, MN native goaltender Alex Stalock broke the NHL – San Jose Sharks shut-out streak by a time of 178:55 minutes previously held by Evgeni Nabokov since 2009. Stalock beat Nabokovs record by 7:37.
