1951: The 7th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the St. Paul Auditorium from Feb. 22-24th.
1952: Former NHL center Lorne Henning born in Melfort, Sask. Henning played in the NHL 1972-73 through 1980-81. He later became coach with the North Stars, Islanders, Chicago and Anaheim.
1953: Former NHL player Al Hangsleben born in Warroad, MN.
1955: Former North Stars NHL center Tim Young born in Scarborough, Ont. Young played in the NHL 1975-76 through 1984-85.
1962: The 18th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the St. Paul Auditorium from Feb. 22-24th.
1968: The 25th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the St. Paul Auditorium from Feb. 22-24th.
1971: Chicago traded Terry Caffery and Doug Mohns to the North Stars, in exchange for Danny O’Shea.
1972: Former MN Wild defenseman Jason Marshall born in Cranbrook, B.C.
1974: Former MN Wild center Aaron Gavey born in Sudbury, Ont.
1976: North Stars ended their team-record 10 game losing streak with a 6-3 win against the Scouts, at Kansas City.
1980: ‘Miracle on Ice’ game played at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, N.Y. with US defeating Russia 4-3.
1982: Bobby Smith scored a goal and added three assists to lead the North Stars to an 8-7 win over the visiting Whalers.
1983: Rookie Brian Bellows scored twice and added an assist to lead the North Stars to a 3-2 win against the Red Wings, at Detroit.
1989: Dave Christian scored twice and added an assist as the Capitals won 7-2 over the Kings, at L.A.
1989: Ken Hodge, Jr. scored his first NHL goal. It came for the North Stars in a 5-5 tie at Chicago.
1989: Phil Housley had a goal and two assists to lead the Sabres to a 7-5 win over the visiting Islanders.
1991: Winnipeg’s Phil Housley scored his 20th goal of the season for the fifth straight year, in a 6-4 Jets loss to the Kings. Housley became the second defenseman in Jets history (after Dave Ellett) to score 20 goals in one season.
1993: Phil Housley had four assists in the Jets’ 6-3 win over the Ottawa Senators, in Winnipeg.
1994: Cities Hockey Inc. (Ownership group of the MN Arctic Blast – RHI team) submits to the league 15 protected players including: Nole Rahn, Dave Shute, Ron Saatzer, Bill Pye, Bryan Brandt and Jim Hau.
2007: Minnesota’s Wyatt Smith scored his first goal in 92 games as the Wild won 4-3 against the Avalanche at Colorado.
2009: Matt Cullen scored the first hat trick of his 11 year NHL career (786 games) to lead the Hurricanes to a 5-2 win over the visiting Colorado Avalanche. The three goals gave Cullen 401 points in his NHL career.
2011: Bloomington, MN native Erik Johnson scored the game winning goal in his first game against the Blues (his former team) as the Avalanche won 4-3 win at St. Louis.
2011: Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom improved to 13-0-0 lifetime at home against Edmonton and Pierre-Marc Bouchard had a goal and two assists as the Wild beat the visiting Oilers 4-1.
