This Day in MN Hockey History: Sept. 17

1925: Former NHL right winger Clarence Schmidt born in Williams, MN. Schmidt played in the NHL 1943-44 with Boston.

1967: The expansion Minnesota North Stars played their first NHL preseason game in team history, a 3-1 victory over the Oakland Seals, at a game played in Port Huron, Michigan.

1976: Former NHL goalie Zac Bierk born in Peterborough, Ont. Bierk played in the NHL 1997-98 through 2003-04 with Tampa Bay, the Minnesota Wild and Phoenix.

1979: Minnesota North Stars signed Tony White as a free agent.

2009: Minnesota Wild signed free agent Petr Sykora.
