1967:  The expansion Minnesota North Stars record dropped to 7-4-1 in their first NHL preseason, after a 2-0 loss to the Pitttsburgh Penguins, at a game played in Belleville, Ontario.

1972:  Former NHL center Rusty Fitzgerald born in Minneapolis, MN.  Fitzgerald played in the NHL 1994-95 through 1995-96 with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

1982:  St. Louis Blues claimed Jack Carlson from the Minnesota North Stars in the NHL Waiver Draft.

1991:  Calgary’s Joel Otto recorded his 300th career NHL point with an assist in a 9-2 Flames win over Edmonton.

1991:  Minnesota North Stars signed Brad Berry as a free agent.

1992:  Chicago claimed Dave Christian from St. Louis in the annual NHL waiver draft.

1992:  Calgary Flames obtained Chris Dahlquist from the Minnesota North Stars, during the annual NHL waiver draft.

1992:  Minnesota North Stars signed Dan Quinn as a free agent.

2001:  Phil Housley scored twice in the first period in his Blackhawk debut, as Chicago won their season opener, 5-4 at Vancouver.

2005:  Minnesota Wild claimed Randy Robitaille off waivers from Nashville.

2007:  Minnesota goalie Niklas Backstrom recorded his 6th career shutout in the season opener, a 1-0 win over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks.
