This Day in MN Hockey History: Oct. 28

1930:  St. Paul (AHA) traded Doc Romnes to Chicago in exchange for cash.

1948: Chicago Blackhawks traded John Mariucci to the St. Louis Flyers of the American Hockey League for cash.

1948:  Former North Stars center Jude Drouin born in Mont-Louis, Que.

1971:  Minnesota goalie Cesare Maniago got his 18th career shutout as the North Stars beat the Penguins 2-0.

1972:  North Stars began a team-record 13 game home undefeated streak (12-0-1) with a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

1973:  Bill Goldsworthy set a Minnesota North Stars’ franchise record for fastest goal from the start of a game, when he scored just :15 into a 3-3 tie at Boston.

1977:  Philadelphia Flyers traded Harvey Bennett to the North Stars for Blake Dunlop and a 3rd round draft pick in 1978 (Gord Salt).

1978:  NHL center Mark Cullen born in Moorhead, MN.  Cullen has played in the NHL since 2005-06 with the Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers & the Florida Panthers.

1979:  Former Minnesota Wild defenseman Martin Skoula born in Litomerice, Czech.

1981:  Steve Payne scored two goals and added an assist to lead the North Stars to a 6-1 win over Calgary, in Minnesota.

1982:  Pittsburgh Penguins acquired left wing Anders Hakansson from the North Stars in exchange for right wing George Ferguson and the Penguins’ 1st pick in the ’83 draft (Brian Lawton).

1982:  Bobby Smith scored two goals and added an assist to lead the North Stars to a 7-3 win over the Red Wings, in Minnesota.

1983:  Minnesota North Stars traded former Calder winner Bobby Smith to Montreal in exchange for Keith Acton, Mark Napier, and Montreal’s 1984 third-round draft choice.

1986:  Dino Ciccarelli scored twice and added an assist to lead the North Stars to a 7-4 win over the Calgary Flames, in Minnesota.

1986:  NHL left wing Matt Kassian born in Edmonton, Alta.  Kassian has played in the NHL since 2010-11.

1989:  Mike Gartner of the North Stars scored once and took 9 shots on goal in a 6-5 win over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers.

2000:  Colorado’s Shjon Podein scored twice in a span of 10 seconds as the Avalanche extended its season-opening unbeaten streak to 11 games (9-0-2), the best start to a season in franchise history — with a 4-2 win against the visiting Edmonton Oilers.

2003:  Minnesota Wild scored two power-play goals and a shorthanded goal for a 3-1 win against the Sabres at Buffalo.

2005:  Minnesota goaltender Dwayne Roloson made 52 saves and set a team record for most saves in a period, with 23 in the third period period of a 2-1 shootout loss at Columbus.

2009:  Minnesota Wild set a team record by scoring three goals in a span of 1:47 in the second period, in a 4-3 loss to the Predators in Nashville.
