Gophers F Hannah Brandt makes history in 8-3 Minnesota win
Senior Hannah Brandt scored five goals, including her 100th career goal, to become the Gopher women’s hockey program’s all-time career leading scorer as No. 3 Minnesota defeated No. 5 Bemidji State, 8-3, to secure a WCHA series sweep at Ridder Arena Saturday afternoon.
Brandt scored a natural hat trick, beginning with her 100th career goal at 9:44 of the first period. She added two more tallies in the opening five minutes of the second period before Williamson and Cameranesi scored power-play goals to give the Gophers a 5-0 lead at the second intermission. Brandt then scored twice in the third period.
“Once Hannah got that one, it just kept on going,” Frost said. “To get five on the night and become the all-time leader in Gopher women’s hockey history points wise, what an accomplishment. We’ve had incredible players come through our program, and for her to be at that milestone is really great.”
With her five-goal game, Brandt’s career total stands at 247 career points (104 goals, 143 assists), surpassing Minnesota’s previous program record held by Natalie Darwitz at 246 career points (102 goals, 144 assists).
Brandt’s five-goal effort also ties a Gopher women’s hockey program record for most goals scored in a single game, matching the record held by Nadine Muzerall, who scored five goals against Bemidji State on Jan. 22, 2000.
